EHR is an acronym for Electronic Health Record and it could just be what keeps you from lots of wasted time at your next surgeon’s call. Most times when you see a modern general practitioner, you are obligatory to answer inquiries that you may have cleared many times in the earlier, such as sex, diet, age, race, and the like. With an EHR, this is a factor of the past as there is no necessity for a new health practitioner to get any of that info form you or to call for your last medical professional to send any of your info over. Instead with an EHR, you would have one centralized record that any physician you visit would be able to view. This info would include your locality, your medical records of the past, and any past operations had you had done. All this leaves you to do is get treated and get better.

When our business (that processes a lot of large medical images) was growing fast, it became self-evident that we needed additional bandwidth. Our T1 line just wasnt cutting it any longer. We had no choice but to upgrade.

Since I am the IT guy, I was asked to renegotiating our existing contract. Fortunately our company’s 3 year term was almost over, so we were in the position to shop around for different alternatives.

The most apparent solution was to change from a single t1 to a bonded T1. Nevertheless with our current growth rate, it would not take long before that also would not be enough.

My sales rep with our current carrier (who will remain unidentified here) was glad to recommend a bigger and far more high-priced solution: a DS3 (T3 line) with a capacity of 45 mb. This is surely enough taking our envisioned growth rate into consideration, it was perhaps even a bit of an overkill. And the cost per month was in the higher 4 digit figures.

I found a new solution though. A new technology (or at least new to me) that can deliver internet access via an Ethernet port over POTS lines, also called Ethernet over Copper. The pricing was super; we were able to get a 10 meg port for less than a 3mb bonded t-1!

Another important advantage of carrier ethernet bandwidth is the scalability. We can just add bandwidth by simply ordering more, in small incremental steps of a few megabit, even all the way up to a gigabit Ethernet circuit.

Be sure to shop around with several providers and make sure you are aware of new technologies (or use a telecommunications consultant that is).

Virgin Media’s new super- fast 50Mb broadband service is becoming extremely popular, especially amongst the hackers. The service, also known as Virgin Media XXL, offers a new fibre optic package that is being accessed by hackers using reconfigured modems.

It seems that the hackers, after having a close look at the equipment that Virgin Media has been giving to its users, have been using replicated modems. With these modems, they are able to connect to the Virgin Media XXL broadband service at a speed of 30Mb.

A report on TechWatch, a technology site, mentioned that Virgin Media has just become aware of the fact that its broadband service is being misused. Most of the hackers are those who had subscribed to a lower package from the company, which does not allow them such high speeds. If this has given you a sudden urge to check your broadband service, click for a broadband speed test.

The offence is punishable by law. Illegal modifying of broadband modems to get better speeds can lead to a person being fined and even put in prison. However, there have been no comments by Virgin Media as to how it is going to deal with the alleged hackers. The company’s dilemma is understandable as it is dealing with its own customers, and any unwise move could bring a lot of negative publicity. The large number of hackers is another problem that would make the issue sensitive.

The Mobile World Congress suffered on two major fronts this year. Firstly, the attendance was significantly lower, a drop of 6000 from last year’s 55,000. Secondly, there were very few product launches. Falling sales of handsets everywhere means the companies are holding back and shying away from being too adventurous. With all the gadgetry missing, the characteristic glitz of the event also went missing. The legacy of the Mobile World Congress has been damaged, but hopefully it has not been permanently diminished.

Rob Conway, GSMA CEO, summed up the mood by saying that it seemed only the elite of the mobile world had made it to the event this year. The lack of attendance though did not stop several major issues from being discussed, especially the growth in mobile broadband.

3g mobile broadband is seen as a key growth area for the mobile industry and several surveys have indicated that a large number of existing mobile users see a big growth in their data usage in the future. Mobile broadband is poised to reach over 100 million European consumers who do not currently have access to fixed broadband. Throughout the world too, it is seen as the future of broadband and most companies in the mobile industry are betting on this demand to boost their revenues in coming years. However, the top priority item on the agenda currently is escaping unscathed in this severe economic downturn and getting back to business as usual.

There are over 65 million people using mobile phones and the mobile telephone system is spreading (information is sourced from Health Protection Agencies). Previously damaged parts of a mobile were dumped at land filled site, but presently these parts are recycled and utilized for another purpose. A mobile has compositions of cadmium and silver in it, wherein cadmium produces a harsh environmental effects and silver can be extracted and put to use.

Mazumamobile and various other phone recycling companies use the spare parts of a mobile to create a new one. The parts include battery circuit, integrated circuit, LCD screen, microphone, speakers, PCB’s, aerials, flash memories, keyboards, lenses, phone housing, screws and edges of a circuit coated with gold. News on recycling states that these are used to create another functional device.

The components of silver and plastic can be extracted from the other elements present in a mobile. The plastic in the outer surface can be reformulated with the heat developed from incineration. Therefore the method of recycle provides beneficial effects in the society by saving the exhaustible resources.

Mobiles should be devoid of any financial contracts during the process of recycling. Batteries and chargers should be supported along with the mobile. Padded box ensures complete safety when the mobile is taken in transit.
