Virgin Media’s new super- fast 50Mb broadband service is becoming extremely popular, especially amongst the hackers. The service, also known as Virgin Media XXL, offers a new fibre optic package that is being accessed by hackers using reconfigured modems.

It seems that the hackers, after having a close look at the equipment that Virgin Media has been giving to its users, have been using replicated modems. With these modems, they are able to connect to the Virgin Media XXL broadband service at a speed of 30Mb.

A report on TechWatch, a technology site, mentioned that Virgin Media has just become aware of the fact that its broadband service is being misused. Most of the hackers are those who had subscribed to a lower package from the company, which does not allow them such high speeds. If this has given you a sudden urge to check your broadband service, click for a broadband speed test.

The offence is punishable by law. Illegal modifying of broadband modems to get better speeds can lead to a person being fined and even put in prison. However, there have been no comments by Virgin Media as to how it is going to deal with the alleged hackers. The company’s dilemma is understandable as it is dealing with its own customers, and any unwise move could bring a lot of negative publicity. The large number of hackers is another problem that would make the issue sensitive.

The Mobile World Congress suffered on two major fronts this year. Firstly, the attendance was significantly lower, a drop of 6000 from last year’s 55,000. Secondly, there were very few product launches. Falling sales of handsets everywhere means the companies are holding back and shying away from being too adventurous. With all the gadgetry missing, the characteristic glitz of the event also went missing. The legacy of the Mobile World Congress has been damaged, but hopefully it has not been permanently diminished.

Rob Conway, GSMA CEO, summed up the mood by saying that it seemed only the elite of the mobile world had made it to the event this year. The lack of attendance though did not stop several major issues from being discussed, especially the growth in mobile broadband.

3g mobile broadband is seen as a key growth area for the mobile industry and several surveys have indicated that a large number of existing mobile users see a big growth in their data usage in the future. Mobile broadband is poised to reach over 100 million European consumers who do not currently have access to fixed broadband. Throughout the world too, it is seen as the future of broadband and most companies in the mobile industry are betting on this demand to boost their revenues in coming years. However, the top priority item on the agenda currently is escaping unscathed in this severe economic downturn and getting back to business as usual.

There are over 65 million people using mobile phones and the mobile telephone system is spreading (information is sourced from Health Protection Agencies). Previously damaged parts of a mobile were dumped at land filled site, but presently these parts are recycled and utilized for another purpose. A mobile has compositions of cadmium and silver in it, wherein cadmium produces a harsh environmental effects and silver can be extracted and put to use.

Mazumamobile and various other phone recycling companies use the spare parts of a mobile to create a new one. The parts include battery circuit, integrated circuit, LCD screen, microphone, speakers, PCB’s, aerials, flash memories, keyboards, lenses, phone housing, screws and edges of a circuit coated with gold. News on recycling states that these are used to create another functional device.

The components of silver and plastic can be extracted from the other elements present in a mobile. The plastic in the outer surface can be reformulated with the heat developed from incineration. Therefore the method of recycle provides beneficial effects in the society by saving the exhaustible resources.

Mobiles should be devoid of any financial contracts during the process of recycling. Batteries and chargers should be supported along with the mobile. Padded box ensures complete safety when the mobile is taken in transit.

Do you remember when gaming portables were a special breed? They were simply like a small quantity manufacturing line. Didn’t ship in numbers but produced a lot of money on each system. They were the kind of notebooks desired by everybody however the expense was just too much. Simply they were the best laptops about. Having mentioned that the large number of us probably didn’t buy laptops of this nature because of the cost. Recently all that has looked to have altered as the massive players have found the opportunities in laptops for gaming.

They know there is cash to be taken here. They could dictate the sector. Profit margins have been so little lately that this is a great chance to get more money by selling computers. They can also use their gigantic marketing funds to entice buyers further into spending their savings or getting out the charge cards to buy laptops like these ones. In my opinion this could really ruin littler laptop sellers if they don’t differentiate their usp. The top end technology will quickly forge its way into the view of the normal customers. Littler companies cannot really take advantage of a brand name as the bigger manufacturers could.

The recognised brands latest notebooks are receiving a lot of praise as being the best laptops from the media. This is a major opportunity the littler competitors should use to their advantage. Specifying the specification is an experience all us enthusiasts prefer. These kinds of people usually are well educated in the technology and would compare part for part. More often than not these types of buyers are more partial to the specifications than the styling. All purchasers concur that its a great thing. It will cause prices to fall and make high end technology cheaper for people. Things move so fast in this industry that I cannot precisely make any assured claims. New laptop introductions should prolong premium prices. We will discover what we can expect from the gaming laptop sectors large brands.

Fast broadband is uncomplicated to set up. You might quickly observe the cheapest deals with an internet provider comparison service by just putting in your street name & then the website will come back with a list of broadband packages in your postcode. surfers will be under no contract to register with any high speed internet provider while people look through the broadband deals.

Once users have signed up with your Internet Service Provider the internet corporation will arrange a time period for internet connection and supply clients with any necessary routers & connection software. Once people have successfully connected to the internet you may start to rejoice in the extremely fast speeds of internet access. If surfers are going to get music, TV shows such as The Simpsons or thriller movies please be wary of any download allocations people may have on your broadband package. Motown music and TV downloads such as Location Location Location may take up most of your ‘download allocation’ as the internet firm are huge in file size.

Here are three ways to access Windows Explorer…

by Beth Sunny and Karin Rex

There are three ways to access Windows Explorer: Using the Start Menu
The way that most people access Windows is Explorer is a four-click process. Click on the Start button. Click on the All Programs menu. Click on Accessories. Click on Windows Explorer. Using the Shortcut Menu
To cut out half the clicks, you can use a shortcut menu. Right-click on the Start button. Click on Explore. Using the Quick Launch Toolbar
If you have the Quick Launch toolbar showing, you can get to Windows Explorer in a single click! Simply click on the Windows Explorer icon in the toolbar. (It resembles an open file folder with a magnifying glass in front of it.)

NOTE: If you don’t see the Quick Launch Toolbar, right-click anywhere in an empty part of the taskbar and choose Properties. On the Taskbar tab, click in the Quick Launch checkbox and then click OK.

Notebooks seem to be the current in thing this year. Taiwanese companies have said raw material scarcities will affect deliveries this year due to the astronomical demands. Whatever occurs in the market this demand for laptop computers only seems to be increasing. It’s an industry which is also tough to keep up with it terms of technology because its shifting all the time.

Increasing numbers of consumers are buying laptops for gaming these days. I feel gaming laptops have never been at such low prices. You can hunt down some extremely good bargains out there that will get you playing games. I play games on my laptop on a frequent basis and must say I’m delighted how playable few of the demanding games are. Additional positives to come from developed manufacturing processes is tiny, cooler components that cater for thinner, attractive cases. With that mentioned gaming laptops should never be thought of in the same category as their PC counterparts. There will be a gap and the argument here is that its not a enormous factor for the masses. It seems as if everyone is possessed with making thinner, lighter notebooks and I’m sure we will see gaming laptops like that in the near future.

Sometimes the average mass market notebooks just are not suitable for what we require them for so custom laptops will always be about. With custom built laptops you normally get to know what make of components is going into the laptop. It just gives the buyer added options when it all boils down. The large amount of laptop computers are specified for the modest consumer which means you may not find what you’re looking for. A custom built notebooks this problem. There’s tons of companies offering custom laptops, with super customer support. Numerous small groups of consumers recognise they are served better because of this.

It’s intriguing to see more powerful notebooks being released every 12 months. Basic ultra portables are the popular trend. Its funny how 1 brilliant product has made a new market. If a company produces a laptop that has a big screen yet also weightless at an average market price I feel it would be a big success. This is something that can be produced even today if we gave up power. It would not shock me to see minute gaming laptops in the next 4 years time. New products are seen every couple of months and I’m sure the next few months already holds a lot of promise for us techies.

Here are some tips you can use to speed up Windows XP Operating System. First and foremost, what everyone should know is the utility in Windows XP called “Disk Cleanup” & “Disk Defragmenter.” Both of them are located from the Start Menu>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>

Disk Cleanup will clean up all temp files, recycle bin trashes, history files, all those goodies to give you more space.
Disk Defragmentor will put all the peices of your PC together (when you move folders, uninstall things, and what not) together to make it run more efficiently.

***Scroll down, these tweaks may cause problems if you have an ATI video card***

Now, here are some tips

  1. Improve performance by deleting prefetch
  2. After using your computer for quite some time without cleaning the prefetch, it will slow down your computer noticeably. What you can do is open C:WINDOWSPrefetch. Its not good to do this every single day, but atleast once a month or once every two months.

  3. Remove unwanted startup programs slowing your pc
  4. Go to your start menu and click on it.
    Go to Run.
    Type in “msconfig” w/o qoutes.
When the window pops up, go to the last tab called “Startup” and uncheck programs you do not want to startup the next time you start your computer. Now, reboot.

  5. Help tune your Memory(RAM)
  6. I recommend that you have atleast 512MB of ram when using this tweak.

    Go to Start>run>regedit

Now, navigate your way to this registry key. Between each “>” are the sub categories
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory Management

Now, you will see these two values. Apply these tweaks to it.

DisablePagingExecutive: Double click it. In the decimal put a 1. This allows XP to keep data in memory now instead of paging sections of ram which in terms give you a better performing PC.

LargeSystemCache: Double click it. Change the decimal to 1. This allows XP Kernel to Run in memory which also improves system performance alot

  7. Remove fancy smancy for speed
  8. If you dont mind the fancy Windows XP look and want something like the older versions of windows like 98 or ME, right click on “My Computer” and click on properties.
    Click on “Advanced” tab.
    Click on “Settings” undes Performance
Now, you see the visual effects. You can check/uncheck all or some or none to your liking. Fast = less checked.

  9. Speed up shutdown time if your shutdown takes FOREVER
  10. go to Start Menu.

    Run.
Type in “regedit” and go through the sub categories to this.

    HKEY CURRENT USER>Control Panel>Desktop

Then double click on “AutoEndTasks” and replace the 0 with a 1.
Then, for “WaitToKillAppTimeout”, change the Value data to 2000.
For “HungAppTimeout”, change the Value data to 1000.
***if those values does not exist for the last two(WaitToKillAppTimeout and HungAppTimeOut), create them.

    Now, reboot.

After reboot if you have problems, make this change.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl right click on “WaitToKillServiceTimeout” and change it to 2000 also.

Now, reboot and watch your PC go VROOOOM!

One Divine thing
In the world I know
Is the whisper of knowledge
I have been shown
It pierces the dark
Above and Below
Like nourishing rain
It KNOWS how to grow

Ever reaching
Everlasting
Ever asking
And true
Unaffected
Uncorrupted
Undirected
For YOU

To all things
On all planes
In all forms
Can be heard
Infinite gifts
Connecting rifts
Bridging worlds
More than words

Not silence
Not static
Not lifeless
Nor cold
Divine Essence
To my ear
Pure secrets
Unfold

Nothing more than
Hearts desire
There for all
Who inquire
If you ask
You are blessed
That you will
Is my guess
