Excuses

We all have them. It amazes me how creative I can be when I need a good excuse for something. In life we either have success, or we have excuses.

Life tip: For one week, pay attention to how often you create excuses for yourself. You’ll be surprised by how many excuses you make and how often you make them. Then start to refute them. Ask your self “is this really true, or is it just convenient for me to believe?”

Limitations

Richard Bach offers us this great piece of wisdom about limitations – “Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they’re yours.”

Other than gravity, mortality and a few others, most of our limitations are self-imposed. Now why would we want to do that?

Life tip: Whenever you notice that you are imposing a limitation on yourself, ask “what would I be able to do without this limitation?” Then start heading in that direction.

I can’ts

If you believe you can’t, then you can’t. If you believe you can, you just might make it.

Life tip: Don’t focus on what you can’t do; focus on what you can.

Entitlement:

Our culture has taught us that we deserve all good things just by showing up. That’s just not the real world. We are promised only the pursuit of happiness, not happiness itself. It’s up to us to have the guts and determination for the pursuit.

Life tip: If you want something, make very sure that you are doing all the necessary things to get there. No excuses allowed.

Clutter

This one will sound more like the typical spring-cleaning tip. I include it because clutter, excess stuff laying around, is a major source of stress and actually holds us back in life. We have to move around it and through it, and it stays in our minds on the list called “things I really ought to do someday but know I never will.”

Life tip: If you have not used it in the past year, and it does not have intrinsic or sentimental value, give it away, sell it or throw it out.

Want to sell DVDs on Ebay? A lot of people do. Its a competitive market to say the least, but how do they do it – where do they get their stock from? Drop-shipping? Wholesale outlets? Possibly, if you have a spare lockup to store all the bulk purchased DVDs you just bought to get that extra discount. Chances are if you are considering buying to sell on Ebay you have looked into buying wholesaler lists from Ebay itself. Well, If I was you I would not waste my money. In my experience these lists are nothing but junk, containing at best outdated information for wholesalers in the US, with nothing relevant to the UK. There are many, many other ways to purchase DVDs to sell on Ebay – by all means follow the wholesaler route. There are wholesale outlets out there that cater for the Sole Trader, without having to be VAT registered but you usually find that the prices offered are not that much better, if at all, than the prices offered by the larger more reputable stores on the internet. So with that in mind, where should you start…? Well you really need to bear in mind 2 things.

1. People that buy on ebay are looking for a bargain, the trouble is they think that Ebay is the best place to look. They are wrong!

2. The higher the RRP the more bang for your buck.

When people first start selling DVDs on Ebay, they quickly find that the profit margins are slim to non-existent, but they usually have a plan: so what, they think, if they only make £1.00 for every DVD sold – sell a hundred DVDs in a month and before they know it that’s £100 profit. Fair enough if you are prepared to put in the work. But you will quickly find that of those 100 DVDs you sell in a month, a fairly high percentage of them will make even less than £1.00 profit, some will just break even and some will incur a loss. That’s just the way Ebay is designed: with the consumer in mind (if you have never sold on Ebay before you have to remember that that you are charged a fee when you list your items, charged again when the item sells and charged yet again when the buyer uses paypal for pay for it..!). The promotion of the “Watch this item” option on Ebay has been a boon for the customer but a bane for many a seller, whereas in the early days to watch an Item the customer had to place a bid, now it is very apparent that items can be added to a customers watch list the day you upload your listing and they do not have to place a bid until the auction closes, which can make for a last minute bidding frenzy and lower final values! So what is the best way round this? For the most part steer clear of the latest Region 2 blockbusters. There is too much competition for those, but if you can find a good source for Box-sets, Limited Editions, Deleted DVDs or Imported DVDs you will be onto a winner. These items will tend to fetch more money because of their perceived higher value or rareness of the DVD. But where should you buy them from? That is the 6 Million Dollar Question, but here are a few recommendations.

1. Price comparison Sites.

There are many price comparison sites on the internet, search for these in google, identify your favourite, enter your keywords and search for your DVDs. Some of them offer a list of the the best bargains currently available, sorted by either percentage or value discount across the majority of the big name retailers on the net. Yet more will allow you to target a specific DVD: enter your email address and select a target price. When the DVD reaches that price you will automatically be sent an email informing you where to purchase the DVD. Advantages of this are obvious since it will save you a lot of time an effort hunting down the bargain yourself.

2. Community Forums.

These sites can be worth their weight in Gold. Specialist Bargain hunter forums run by people just like you and populated with members just like you – all devoted to finding the latest and best bargains on the internet, whether they be legitimate sale discounts or the more sort after and flirtatious Mis-Price (these occur when the an on-line store messes up and lists a high value DVD for a 95% discount or something similar – it happens and if your quick off the mark, you might be able to get an order dispatched before the retailer rectifies the mistake). As well as the Bargain sections of these forums many also have a classified section, which brings us onto….

3 Second Hand. This is really a good market. I know I said earlier to steer clear of the latest blockbusters, but some of the forum sites have a very good classified section populated by people who purchase all the latest DVDs from all regions then sell them on when they are finished watching them for a discounted price. It is in forums sections such as this that you may find your ebay rarities and deleted limited editions being offered for sale at very discounted prices, possibly because the seller does not realise the true value of what he is offering.

4. Ex Rental.

Sometimes DVDs are released only for rental, with the sell thru DVD delayed for a couple of months. These DVDs can sometimes be picked up from the ex-Rental bin of your local DVD shop, usually for a very palatable price. List on Ebay as RARE, Not available in shops or some other sensational tag line and the DVD will probably sell for a good price. (But make sure you let the customer know that the Item is not new)

These are just a few ways for you to get hold of your DVDs at the best possible prices. I hope you find them useful and I wish you the best of luck with your Ebay endeavours.

DVD recorders are poles apart from digital video recorders (more normally known as DVR’s) in that they record your favourite digital gardening programmes straight on a removable storage disc (more regularly known as the DVD) instead of a hard disk storage. Digital Versatile Disc’s have these days become an unbelievable valuable technique for storing very important data because of their significant storage capabilities, stability asking price and ease.

Like a video cassette recorder (more normally known simply as a VCR) the DVD recorder has standard A/V inputs and playback facilities. Digital Versatile Disc Recorders in general accept one of these two, often now and then both, despite this in practical terms they are roughly indistinguishable. Recordable discs are relatively cheap and recordings can be run in more or less every system. DVD recorders with both an analogue and a digital receiver are able to hook-up to a set top box. Amazing prices on Pioneer DVD recorder at Digital Direct Uk.

DVD recorders are experiencing a revolution, adding a digital Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC for short) tuner if it has a tuner as consented by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC for short). Digital Versatile Disc recorders are rapidly taking over from Video Cassette Recorders as the chosen way to keep your desired TV religious programs & movies. With Digital Versatile Disc recorders you can look at normal Digital Versatile Discs listen to audio Compact Disc’s and play back your stored discs.

A Digital Versatile Disc recorder has a laser (usually six-hundred and fifty nm red) to read & write Digital Versatile Discs. The reading laser is commonly not stronger than five mW, though the writing laser is astonishingly stronger DVD recorders when they started hit the consumer electronics market a number of years ago were to a certain extent costly & the run of the mill buyer couldn’t afford to buy one. Whilst in the past number of years they have significantly plummet in cost & are today obtainable economically to the majority of people.

Sales + Marketing25 Jun 2008 08:56 pm

If you run a business, which sends out advertising thru mailers such as Money Mailer or Coupon Savers and you offer some sort of discount you will notice many people coming in with these coupon offers. And this lasts for a week or two and you think wow, that worked good I’ll do it again. Only one problem next mailing is one-month or for the zip codes you want 7-weeks from now.

There is a solution to this dilemma, when the customers come in offer a slightly lesser coupon and put it in their bag and therefore they take home with them the next coupon good in one-two weeks. Meaning the bigger coupon they will get on the next mailing. Direct Mailing Cycles affect many types of businesses such as hair salons, cruise holidays, carwashes and sandwich shops. Luckily there is more than one company mailing these things out and therefore more chances to get your coupons or ads in front of your potential future clientele, if in fact you have found direct mail to work well for you.

Additionally, when a customer comes in with a coupon they are probably a new customer and you want them to love the service so much that they come back without waiting for the next coupon. If all your present customers come in with coupons, then you are losing money because they would have come anyway. You need to be careful not to get your customers on so use to the coupons in the mail that they wait for them to come shop with you. Consider all this in 2006.

A while back LeeAnn from Las Vegas asked my opinion on just when is the right time to begin teaching her 2-year-old daughter. She has already begun teaching basic concepts such as alphabet, colors, and numbers, but some members of her family feel that she is pushing her little girl.

In my opinion, the easiest way for LeeAnn to test whether or not she is pushing her daughter can be found in this quote: “Is it too soon, or should I let her keep going as long as she is interested and is having fun?”

If LeeAnn’s daughter is interested in the concepts that she is learning and having fun while learning then it is definitely the right time to teach her.

Young children are interested in the world around them and they are interested in what their parents know. Building on that interest to teach basic concepts (just as LeeAnn is doing) is not pushing your child — it is meeting your child’s needs. One of the most important things you can do for your child is to offer an environment rich in learning opportunities. If you give your child the opportunity to learn then he will learn — it really is as simple as that.

Remember, young children are learning a great deal about themselves, their family and caregivers, and their world ever day. For most of those lessons you are the teacher. By the time your child has reached the age of 2 you have already taught hundreds, even thousands, of important lessons about how to function in the world and society. Indeed, many of the everyday activities you perform with your child also have academic implications. For example, the books that you read to your child and the songs you sing with your child have a lasting impact on literacy. It is no great stretch to add other concepts into your repertoire and this can make a great deal of difference in how prepared your child is for preschool and kindergarten.

There are really only three things you should remember:

~ Keep it fun Making learning into a game and your child will always enjoys what you have to teach her.

~ Keep it light Educational products and activities that are actually games are wonderful but don’t force your child into spending time each day with flashcards or the like. They’ll most likely learn faster and more meaningfully if you have an alphabet scavenger hunt at the supermarket.

~ Embrace the teachable moment but don’t schedule lessons and force educational activities on your child. When the opportunity presents itself (and it will countless times in a day!) take advantage and use it for a lesson. For example, simply putting on socks can be a lesson in right and left, colors, or counting!

HOW TO TEACH

So how do you teach your preschooler without scheduling lessons and forcing them to pay attention? You embrace the teachable moment!

What is the teachable moment? It is simply an opportunity that springs out of normal, everyday life or as children become older and more verbal a timely question or comment.

Time when you and your child are in the car, for example, is a wonderful teaching opportunity that many parents overlook. If you are reunited after a day’s separation then you can share stories about your day-and in the process work on vocabulary and literacy skills as well as teach your child about the world around them. You can also use cars and trucks to teach colors, road signs to teach shapes, and so on.

Mealtimes are also wonderful teaching opportunities. Counting is easily worked into almost any meal, such as telling a child they can have two cookies or giving them five tater tots. Shapes and colors can also be brought into mealtimes. For example, my son likes to choose the shape for his sandwiches-triangles or squares? As a child grows older you can also do letter sounds with the various foods, such as milk starts with “mmmmh”.

WHAT TO TEACH

Skills you should work on with your child fall into eight basic categories, according to early childhood educators:

~ Social/Emotional Skills, which will be the greatest predictors of success in life.

~ Self esteem, which is crucial for all learning.

~ Physical Skills

~ Communication Skills: listening, speaking, singing, drawing, gesturing

~ Basic Concepts such as colors, letters, numbers, vocabulary

~ Categorizing Skills, what is the same and different

~ Compare and Contrast Skills, which is the higher order level of Categorizing

~ Experiences on which to draw. These are perhaps the most important of all, as they provide a frame of reference for future learning. The more experiences from which a child can draw, the better s/he will understand both learning and the world.

These are all literacy skills and they are all key to your child’s future success. If you need still more help identifying concepts that your child should master then study the developmental milestones for your child’s age at http://PreschoolersLearnMore.com.

So rest easy, LeeAnn, you are doing exactly the right thing for your daughter!

Preschoolers Learn More newsletter offers a free tutorial to help you teach your child to read as well as other preschool resources at Teach Your Child To Read and Teach Your Child the Alphabet.

Notebooks seem to be the current in thing this year. Taiwanese companies have said raw material scarcities will affect deliveries this year due to the astronomical demands. Whatever occurs in the market this demand for laptop computers only seems to be increasing. It’s an industry which is also tough to keep up with it terms of technology because its shifting all the time.

Increasing numbers of consumers are buying laptops for gaming these days. I feel gaming laptops have never been at such low prices. You can hunt down some extremely good bargains out there that will get you playing games. I play games on my laptop on a frequent basis and must say I’m delighted how playable few of the demanding games are. Additional positives to come from developed manufacturing processes is tiny, cooler components that cater for thinner, attractive cases. With that mentioned gaming laptops should never be thought of in the same category as their PC counterparts. There will be a gap and the argument here is that its not a enormous factor for the masses. It seems as if everyone is possessed with making thinner, lighter notebooks and I’m sure we will see gaming laptops like that in the near future.

Sometimes the average mass market notebooks just are not suitable for what we require them for so custom laptops will always be about. With custom built laptops you normally get to know what make of components is going into the laptop. It just gives the buyer added options when it all boils down. The large amount of laptop computers are specified for the modest consumer which means you may not find what you’re looking for. A custom built notebooks this problem. There’s tons of companies offering custom laptops, with super customer support. Numerous small groups of consumers recognise they are served better because of this.

It’s intriguing to see more powerful notebooks being released every 12 months. Basic ultra portables are the popular trend. Its funny how 1 brilliant product has made a new market. If a company produces a laptop that has a big screen yet also weightless at an average market price I feel it would be a big success. This is something that can be produced even today if we gave up power. It would not shock me to see minute gaming laptops in the next 4 years time. New products are seen every couple of months and I’m sure the next few months already holds a lot of promise for us techies.

House Of Traffic16 Jun 2008 01:53 am

If you want to kick off a new online holiday or event, you’ll need to do it with a Big Bang. Make your entrance, and then keep the momentum going by cattle-driving traffic and human interest to the source. Yes, cattle-driving! You need to climb on that imaginary horse and start corralling people in. Everyone on the web is highly distracted, even your best buddies. Help them notice you, remember you, and get your name out into mass circulation. Make it fun, and don’t forget to have fun yourself. People are attracted to others who seem to be having fun. :)

In online event planning, your two best friends are your social network of humans and the search engines. You can’t possibly pull this thing off unless both are wound into the plan – and it should be pretty clear why. If you stick with search engine tricks alone, you’ll find that your website begins to pull some rank on Google because you’ve driven those search words via the major marketing generation methods… but there’s an absence of life at the point of contact. That’s no good.

If you concentrate solely on your human network but fail to tap the engine power, you’ll get a small group of excited parties all sitting in a closed circle and blinking at each other. I guess small and intimate isn’t terrible, but we’re talking about an online event here and that phrase connotes BIG. So, use search engine optimization AND word of mouth to spread it far and wide.

Let’s talk about the ways you can viral-market your internet promotion and blast it out there in a short period of time.

1. Article marketing. Article marketing is at the heart of every great marketing effort. Don’t get me wrong – blogging is instant entertainment, but if you want credibility, then write potent, info-rich articles or have someone write them for you. Your articles are going to get picked up and added to other people’s websites, so you’ll want to mention the event name and the URL to the event website in each one that you write for your promotional effort. Submit your article to as many article directories as possible but beware the No Advertising Rule! If these guys catch you being too promotional your article will get the shaft and there goes your big article marketing Event Master Blaster Plan. Email me if you need a jumping point for your article marketing campaign: Dina/AT/Wordfeeder.com.

2. Networking. Don’t even attempt online event planning unless you already have a solid online network of marketing colleagues in place. Your friends are the ones who already love you, admire you, will listen to what you say and join in for the group project. Very few “random finds” on the web will just catch wind of your Pied Piper event promotion tune and start following along (but when they do, it’s really cool). You’ll want your network topic to be themed around your event. So, if yours is a Kids’ Artwork Show with a portion of the proceeds going to a children’s hospital, then your network should ideally be for work-at-home moms and parents. DON’T promote your event on a network of unrelated subjectmatter. That’s a great way to drive people away completely!

3. Landing page and email drip campaign. Your landing page should be accessible from your articles and other “outreaching” content vehicles. When your reader clicks the link, he should be “hard sold” on why this is going to be fantastic, what’s in it for him, and compelled to drop his name in the box. Your email subscriber base should continue to grow throughout the event’s developments. Use it as a megaphone to ‘rally the team’, send updates, and guide others to help spread the word and click the links to your blog, articles, ebooks and other web traffic helpers. Frequently tell the team what they’ll get out of this. Offer them gifts. Without an incentive, nobody will want to be your groupie and I for one wouldn’t blame them in the least.

4. Blogging. Blogs get indexed quickly! If you want your mass event to power up the Google ladder, then choose a blog hosting company that will “help you along.” TypePad has been working well for me. Fill your blog with categorized keywords and turn your “major search term” (the name of your holiday) into something that will ring a bell and prompt folks to start typing into the Google box out of sheer curiosity. Your blog should contain plenty of links that “point” to your hot pages; for example, any fun contests or activity pages you plan to run, your articles. Include your landing page at the end of every post. This will lend clarification for the confused who just landed from outer space and also “grab” them for the email list. Your blog should be highly interactive. Initiate discussions; blast out participants and supporters by linking to their websites. Make your blog sticky, and offer plenty of reciprocal links as incentive to keep watching your show.

5. Web PR. Web PR is needed so those RSS feeds can sound off your news to the mass communication circuit online. Just like article marketing and blogs, you’ll want to include the name of your event frequently (about three times per press release) so that the search term will get carried along on those content feeds and bring you higher up on Google. Think of that web surfer, glazing over your press release and reading a term like “Web Content Awareness Day” multiple times. It sinks in somehow. Later, when he stumbles across you again, suddenly he’s compelled to hunt for more info and he types those words into the search box. That’s how the momentum keeps building and it’s a great reason to submit to free PR sites. If you email me, I can help you out: Dina/AT/Wordfeeder.com

6. E-Books. E-books are super-vitamins for your website’s page rank. When people open up your info-laden PDF file, that counts as a page view. Page views give you a push in the search engine hierarchy. So DO give away free information. Link to your free downloadable e-book from your blog, from your group emails, from your network posts and from your “main holiday website” after you launch it. Encourage friends to pass your e-book along to keep the page views coming. Links in your e-book should point back to… guess where? Your blog and your landing page. Are you getting a feel for how all this content is connected?

7. Your Big Yap. Huh? I’m talking about word of mouth. Don’t forget to USE YOUR VOICE in all of your event promotion materials. So many people forget to “speak to their audience” in their marketing, and every time I see it I want to slap myself silly. Don’t just plunk a link or a photo down and think people will click it. There’s so much going on out there, you need to be heard. I’m not just saying that because I’m a copywriter and I love words. Clear, simple, compelling communication is crucial. Don’t be afraid to tell your reader what to do. And ALWAYS tell him what he gets out of it, always! If you have any questions about this EMAIL ME: Dina/at/Wordfeeder.com.

As you can see, it takes some knowledge of cohesive internet marketing to be able to manipulate the search engines while getting folks excited about your big jamboree.
