Cholesterol is a substance that is present in the human body, and is both good and bad for us. High levels of cholesterol, especially LDL or bad cholesterol can put you at an increased risk for heart diseases and strokes. Similarly, low levels of HDL or good cholesterol, can also increase your risk substantially. But what are high and low levels of cholesterol? Here’s a view of ideal cholesterol readings.

Total Cholesterol

According to the total cholesterol in your body, you may have normal levels or increased levels of cholesterol.

Under 200mg/DL: This is the most desirable level of cholesterol to have. If you have cholesterol lower than 200 milligrams per deciliter of blood, then you are considered to have the optimum and normal levels of cholesterol.

Between 200 and 239mg/DL: People within this range of total body cholesterol fall into the category of borderline high risk for getting heart diseases or stroke.

240mg/DL and above: If your total body cholesterol is 240mg/DL or more, then you are at very high risk for contracting heart ailments.

Normal Levels Of HDL Cholesterol

The normal levels of HDL cholesterol are 50-60 mg/DL for women, and 40-50mg/DL for men. HDL is the good cholesterol, and levels lower than 40mg/DL can increase your risk of heart diseases.

Normal Levels Of LDL Cholesterol

Here is a chart, which will show you the optimum, normal, and high levels of LDL cholesterol.

Levels Of LDL Cholesterol Diagnosis
Below 100mg/DL Optimum levels
Between 100 and 129mg/DL Normal levels
Between 130 and 159mg/DL Borderline Risk
Between 160 and 189mg/DL High Risk
More Than 190mg/DL Very High Risk

Note that these readings are guidelines and are considered as part of your overall profile when a doctor makes an assessment of your ideal cholesterol readings. Some people may read high compared to others and yet be found to not be at risk. This is because cholesterol is also made naturally by the body and some people may simply have higher levels than others. However, by understanding the ideal cholesterol reading ranges and by making healthy lifestyle choices, you should be able to achieve your own ideal cholesterol levels, naturally.

Most people agree that owning a home based business is the way to go. In fact, for many people, it is a dream of a lifetime to get out from the 9-to-5 grind and become your own boss. One way to do this is to become a backyard mechanic.

Of course being a backyard mechanic is quite different than operating a regular shop. In fact, you may find legislative challenges to overcome in order to start your business. But there are still ways to operate a accurate mechanic shop without the expense of a regular shop.

Aside from basic repairs and oil changes, you may also be able to do some autobody work on cars that have been accidents. For all of this you will need to have a good supply of inexpensive car parts. So where are you to find them? Here are some ways to find inexpensive car parts when you’re starting out as a backyard mechanic:

Type “wholesale auto parts” into your search engine browser and find an innumerable amount of car part suppliers who can give you great prices on parts, free delivery over a certain amount, and sometimes even a warranty.

Use eBay to find a great deal on parts, especially parts that are difficult to find elsewhere, on just about any car imaginable. EBay offers a good warranty on car parts purchased through them and the only drawback is that if you lose an auction you have to buy the part from somewhere else and that can be time-consuming.

Form an auto-parts buying club with other local car enthusiasts to be able to buy in large quantities and get wholesale discounts.

Contact your local scrap yard dealers and ask them if they’ll give you a discount if you buy a lot of scrap parts from them and take them off yourself, thereby eliminating their costs for labor and storage.

If you live in a large city and can specialize in just a handful of vehicles, you can buy several scrap vehicles quite cheaply, store them, and use them for parts.

Many people moonlight as backyard mechanics, fixing the cars of family and friends. If local laws allow it, there is little to stop you from doing the same as a full-time job. And saving money with car parts would help you earn a profit quickly.

Magnesium has been used in manufacturing notebook computer frames, video cameras, digital cameras, PDAs and other consumer electronics products because of its high strength to weight ratio. When magnesium is alloyed with aluminum, the resultant material is very light and strong, and easily machinable.

The main concern in machining magnesium alloy is the danger of fire ignition when dry cutting. Fire may occur when the melting point of the alloy (400-600 degrees Celsius) is exceeded during machining. The small chips and fine dust generated during cutting are also highly flammable and pose a serious fire risk if not properly handled.

There are several points to note when machining magnesium:

Firstly, use a lower cutting speed when compared to cutting aluminum. The workpiece temperature goes up with an increase in cutting speed and also smaller undeformed chip thickness. In other words, the slower the machining speed and the larger the chips, the lower the workpiece temperature will be. Due to this reason, some companies have modified woodworking tools for machining magnesium so as to achieve larger chips and lower fire hazard. The cutting tools used should have relief and clearance angles that are sufficiently large to prevent unnecessary cutting tool-workpiece friction, thus lowering the heat generated during the cutting process.

Second, keep the machining center clean. Cleaning the machining centers regularly and storing the magnesium chips correctly are important aspects of machining magnesium. Keep a container of cast iron chips near by when machining magnesium, If fire occurs, smother the fire with the cast iron chips.

Thirdly, if coolants are necessary for high speed machining, do not use water-based lubricants. Instead use a light mineral oil, or a water-soluble cutting fluid such as Castrol Hysol MG specially formulated for machining magnesium. Some companies in Japan use semi-dry machining via a misting system.

The fourth point is to monitor the workpiece temperature during machining. Experiments were carried out using thermocouples mounted into the workpiece to monitor the workpiece temperature during machine. Dry cutting of magnesium alloy thin walls was achieved using cutting speed of 440m/min for roughing and 628m/min for fine finishing.

Despite the fire hazards, as competition from overseas low-cost production bases intensifies, and magnesium becomes increasingly used in electronics products, most machining job shops could very well find machining of magnesium a niche worth pursuing.

I’m starting to age I guess in that I’m enjoying more the sounds of my youth like a simple clockwork cuckoo clock. The timeless sound of the cuckoo bring back many memories. When I was a child, both my uncle and grandparents had cookoo clocks. I remember they were dark colored cases with ornate carvings but the bird that came out was brightly colored. I was told these were from the black forest in Germany.

I guess the Germans have a lock on authentic cuckoo clocks as when I got older, I went shopping for one and they were all German made clockworks. The new ones however were just like I remember. Darker carved woods on the outside with ornate carvings.

My parents had both a mantle clock and a wall clock that struck the quarter half and hour times. They were wonderful. Many people have fond memories about growing up. Foods, holidays, smells, and even sounds. I remember how our home was always breathing the sounds of our clocks. Even as an adult, going for visits brought me in many respects back to childhood days when hearing the constant patterned sounds of those time trackers. It was home!

Today, I have a grandfather clock, cuckoo clock, and several other clockwork type clocks all around my home. Yes, they aren’t as “accurate” as quartz timepieces or as fancy as the latest technology has to offer. But there’s something about their even pace, pendulums, weekly winding and yes, the announcement that time is marching on, that is somehow soothing. Almost melodic.

In the night, when every is asleep, I sometimes go down to the living room and just think. The clocks are busy, as always, pacing out time and announcing yet another quarter hour has past. It’s recognition of mortality, that some things don’t last, while others, like the cuckoo clock seem to last lifetimes.

Despite the negative press that the UK housing market experienced at the beginning of 2005, there are a number of reports circulating that suggest that figures have shown an increase towards the end of the year. This is of course good news at the end of what some predicted would be quite a difficult year in the UK property market.

There is of course the question of what will happen in 2006 and the UK property market and in particular with investment property. It is never a precise prediction as there can be many influencing factors but what we do know for certain is that over the last few months we have seen interest rates stabilize and property pricing stablising as a result of this.

UK Investment Property

So does that mean we should avoid investing in UK investment property until the market starts to increase again. In some respects many people might suggest that investing in UK property at any time is a good investment. When you consider that historically property has doubled in value, and sometimes tripled in value, every last 10-15 years, then it is likely to see you a good return on your UK investment property if you are prepared to take a long term view. Plus, there still remains a high level of activity from Landlords and investors alike with a number of buy to let mortgage providers suggesting record levels of applications being received. For those looking for a get rich quick overnight scheme, then this is not for you. But when you consider the long term gains associated with the UK investment property market, it might be worth reading on and don’t forget that it is worth doing plenty of research and finding out as much as you can about investing in property in the UK. Perhaps pick up a Free Buy to Let Guide.

How to make £166,500 in 15 years

According to research from the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), the average cost of a home in the could be £300,000 by the year 2020. Currently that figure stands at around £157,000 in 2005 which represents an increase over the next 15 years of 91%.

This figure of £300,000 is achieved by the economic forecaster basing its prediction on the ever increasing population compared to a slower production of house building. As with many commodities, it is the result of lower supply and higher demand that will push up these prices.

With buy to let residential UK investment property, the maximum loan you can apply for is 85%. Based on an average value property in 2005 of £157,000 this would require you to put down a deposit of 15% £23,550 subject to valuation and rental cover which can vary between 115% to 130% in most cases.

Potentially over the next 15 years, this one investment could realize a return of £166,550. This is based on selling the investment property at £300,000 less the loan of 85% of the property value in 2005.

Over previous years there have been times when property has declined in value and other times where it has signifcantly increased in value but a good property investor will clearly see the benefits in both a rising and declining market and will utilize the facilities of a good buy to let mortgage provider to assist in this. Some also offer Free buy to let mortgage quotes.

During a rising market, a property investor may decide to use this window of opportunity to release some of that equity realized in the value of the UK investment property, to use for additional property investment. However, the property investor is less likely to use that capital released during a rising market. Instead, the landlord will wait until the market has re-stablised itself or experiencing a decline. At this point, they will then use this window of opportunity to purchase lower priced investment property and the circle continues. That is why property investors are in it for the long term and why they see the UK investment property market as being profitable to them in all conditions. And when you consider that UK property prices only need to increase by an average of 4.4% year on year, it is easy to see why this type of property investment is so achievable.

Successful property investors will do a lot of research on areas that they believe will become investment property hotspots and areas which are less likely to perform. There are many areas experiencing high levels of growth and financial investment with a lot of regeneration programmes in place or planned in the future. Even by simply monitoring publications such as Construction News can give a good indication of where new commercial premises are being built which can be a good indicator of new businesses moving to the area which it turn can lead to an increase in demand for rental property locally.

It is the general consensus that interest rates have stablised and there is even speculation of a drop but either way, they have been steady for a good number of months now. Slower capital growth does result in buyers having to put more effort into managing and developing their UK investment property portfolios. And more importantly making a profit from investment property. Buying property at discounted prices can be done but you must do your homework to make sure they are genuine discounts and incentives. And don’t forget that in a slowing market, vendors will be more likely to listen to your offers. Albeit if they are a bit cheeky. In particular, you can use the negative press that is often surrounded by the property market to your advantage. For example when the media are circulating stories of a dropping property market, then vendors are even more keen to listen to your offers.

How to Get Started in Buy to Let

Do as much research as you can. You can even get some free publications including Free Buy to Let Guides.

Find out what properties are selling for. A good way of doing this is by contacting estate agents and researching on the internet. A good way is to look at property house price websites.

What is the level of demand for rental properties in the area

What type of property is most in demand. For example, if it is a university city , then the demand for shared student accommodation may be much higher than property for professional sharers.

Find out what rent is being achieved on those properties and the likely time to get the property let out. Speak to letting agents and local businesses that may be letting properties already in the area.

Raising deposits for your investment properties, may be easier than you think by releasing equity from any of your existing properties.

So how Do you know if you have bought a good UK investment property

Well there is always an element of risk but providing you follow the main logic you should eliminate most of them. It is also important to make sure you continue to review your buy to let mortgage funding on a regular basis as this can have a big impact on your success and cash flow. As we have said above, the UK investment property market can rise as well as fall so providing that you have some cash funds in the bank to help you through any tougher market conditions then you could reap the rewards in years to come. But it’s important that you calculate these carefully into your projections to ensure that whatever funding you may need to input into the investment property that it will be outweighed by the eventual gain.

Providing that you are buying a good quality investmnt property in a good area with strong rental demand then it’s worth considering. Don’t just buy an investment property because it is cheap. You might buy a property at a very discounted price, but if you can’t let it, you could find yourself covering the buy to let mortgage payments for months to come which will see a big dent in your profits. Find out why it is cheap. Is there an increase in crime in the area, have plans been submitted for a large industrial unit to be built behind the garden etc, etc. Do your research. And don’t be afraid to develop an investment property for profit. Buying at the right price, in the right area and doing the right renovation on the property, can also see you return a decent profit. Re-financing the investment property on completion and letting it out could give you the best of both worlds.

Having taken into account all the considerations above, to calculate if it is a good investment property, you need to ensure that your annual rental income exceeds the cost of your monthly buy to let mortgage repayments and maintenance costs. And it is more likely that your annual rental income will be stronger if you select an investment property in area with a strong and growing rental demand as it is less likely that you will experience rental voids and be supplementing the monthly buy to let repayments.

So in conclusion the UK investment property market is likely to remain a prime choice for property investors as long as they are will to commit to the long term.

Well, most of us are through with our taxes for this year. And now is the perfect time to say what we will do differently next year.

Take the time to sit down and assess what worked and didn’t work for you. What cost you the most time? What did you dread doing the most? Take the time to reorganize your taxes for next year.

Start with looking at the basics. How do you organize your tax receipts? This is the part that most of us hate the most, adding up all those little receipts. There are many ways to cut down on this problem.

You could start by using a computer to track your expenses. There are several programs that help you balance your checkbook, track your expenses and make reports as to where your money is going. They make it so very easy to see exactly what you are spending on. I love them. When it is tax time, all you have to do is print out the record (make sure that you’ve stuck the receipts in a box, the IRS doesn’t take computer printouts as fact).

There are people out there that like the tangible ledgers and shoeboxes. My husband is like that, so we keep our records in ledgers and files. You can keep this simple. For example, we own a ranch. We keep an accordion file with a ledger in the front. When a receipt comes in, we right it down in the ledger and file it in the appropriate section, for example “feed.” At any time, we can pick up our books and know exactly what we have out in every section. This is important not only in taxes, but in business planning and viability.

Keep a tax file for the year. Stick every receipt that is deductible in this file. This includes medical expenses and the such. I write the receipt down on the outside of the file before I stick it in. Then I don’t have to sort through receipts when adding, just go down the list.

If you own your home, keep a home file. You will need the receipts from improvements to offset any profits when you sell the home. Stick every major improvement receipt in the file and you’ll know where they are when you need them.

Tax time can be as simple as grabbing a couple of accordion file folders and heading out the door. If you have few deductions, you may only need one simple folder. The key is keeping things together and organized. What takes you only a few seconds now will save you hours of searching when tax time is starting to wind down.

If you do your own taxes, being organized will help you get a jump start on working on filing next year. It is more motivational to sit down with organized papers than piles and piles of receipts in boxes.

If you have your taxes prepared by a professional, don’t leave it until last minute. If you are organized, you should be able to walk out the door at a minute’s notice. Start early in the year, so that you know what receipts you should be saving and what you don’t need to keep. In a few weeks, go talk with a professional and identify what you need to do for next year.

A serious cultivator of Tao of Heaven, is always fills with spiritual tests and these tests are in the form of troubles and obstacles. The obstacles are actually either created by Asura Demon whose duties is to test on the creditability of the cultivator or created by the ghosts whom the cultivator is indebted.

The testings of Asura Demon include the creation of trouble and disruption that is able to deviate one’s interest and attention to commit an act that is against the law of Tao cultivation. Clear thinking, understanding and tolerance have to be when one encountered such a situation because it is merely a test with which one have to pass in order to achieve a higher state of personal advancement in the cultivation. Examples of such a test are the creation of family quarrels, works disruption, sickness, accidents, time scarcity, temptation and teachings of adulterated ideas by false religions teachers.

Ghosts whom the cultivator is indebted may come to find him at this stage to hinder his progress in cultivation. Why must Tao cultivator in this stage be given the test? It is stated by Heaven that ordinary person without Tao cultivation is just like a penniless beggar who owed others a lot of debts. Since he owes others money, they would not find him to return it because he is already broke. Similarly just like a banker asking a bankrupt to pay up will not be fruitful. However a person who is keeping and cultivating Tao is just like earning more and more money and as such his creditors are likely to bounce on him for their debts. Through patience and tolerance, one’s debts shall be steadily be cleared and the excess merit shall represent light rays for his body’s halo.

Rules and regulations must be carefully observed so that demons shall have no chance to demoralize us to commit evil deeds which will result in our downfalls. Concentrate on the principles and not to deviate the path of the cultivation otherwise it can lead to one’s failure. Cultivation is to sacrifice our time, money, energy, status and position. Humbleness is very important in the cultivation and a Tao cultivator is said sometimes to face thousands demons and millions spiritual tests.

Lao Tzu taught us to be calm and firm no matter what the turmoil outside is. The external may look dull but the inside is bright. Just like in the ocean or a cyclone, it is the mid-point that is the most peaceful although the surrounding engulfed is turbulent or even disastrous. One should neither go to the extreme behavior of happiness, anger, sadness, love, ferocity and craze nor attracted by sensual pleasures of color, sound, smell, hearing, touch and fashion trend. Neutrality and simplicity is the main criteria for a peaceful mind to overcome all trials by Asura Demon.

Along the way of spiritual cultivation, it is said that we have to endure a lot of hardships. This is what my Heavenly Teacher JiGong said about endurance, “Disciples! Do you know whether endurance is advantageous to cultivation of Tao? Endurance is the skill of the worthy persons. Those who have not reached the true Tao still need to endure. Yet for those who have attained the true Tao, there is no need to endure. When there is no prejudice in the mind, there is no need to endure. As when one is natural and does not generate the views of being holy or common, and if one’s mind is calm and peaceful, then there is no need to endure. This is the ‘naturalness’ of Buddha; this is not what common people can compete with. The word Endurance (Ren in Chinese) is a knife stabbing into the heart. How painful that is! In cultivation, if one can reach the state of ‘not needing to endure and having no hatred or resentment,’ the mind would naturally be calm and peaceful.”

Author: T.A Chew

T.A Chew had encountered thousands demons and millions spiritual tests since practising Tao. He was told to endure and overcome these tests because Asura Demon will only go for serious cultivators. To go up the ladder of spiritual maturity, there is no other way. Website: http://www.white-sun.com

Publishing Tips + More29 May 2008 03:39 pm

Publishing content on the internet is not a hard task. But, some days it is definitely not the easiest. What do I write about today? Will my reader understand what I am trying to say? Will the reader leave with valuable and useful knowledge?

These questions can be easily answered in two words: wanted content.

The typical internet user does not just search for random keywords to pass the time. They are looking for an answer to a question that they cannot answer themselves.

Where are we going on vacation in March? How do I make homemade egg noodles? How do I tie a double-winsor knot? What band is playing in town tonight?

The job of the publisher is to simply identify, and answer, the specific question. Of course, it is impossible to answer every possible question. That is why the publisher writes what they know.

Write what you know.

“Write what you know” is quite possibly the best lesson for any aspiring writer, no matter the intent of the audience. A reader will look right through imagined material. They may know more than what you are communicating to them.

It is tempting for a content publisher to try and breeze through their articles. This will not do any good – for you or your reader. It is important to take time to research your topic.

Don’t write above their heads.

Maybe you are the expert in your field. Therefore, they are not. It is then necessary to learn the questions of your readers. What do they want to know? How best can you describe the information? Besides knowing your content, it is equally important to be able to communicate at their level.

It is probably difficult for a reader to understand medical journal if they have only completed high school. It is probably equally as difficult for a Ph.D. to understand the writings of a sixth grader.

By researching other publications that include writings for your readers, you are able to determine what level of writing to use in your articles and content. You will sound more believable to your intended audience and they will almost certainly continue reading your piece.

What do I write?

Find out what questions your readers want answers to. There are solutions that will help you determine what they are searching for, and what pages are frequented the most. Where does your traffic come from and what links do they follow.

Taking the time to analyze this collected information will help you to better publish on your site. It is worth the time and effort to do a little research, and will eliminate wasted efforts on your part.

When it is all said and done…

When you have finished your research and writing, you will have completed a piece that is informative to your readers, easy to read and comprehend, and reassure your reader that you are a believable expert in your field. They can rely on you and your service to keep them informed of the information they desire.

Since antiquity people have used textiles for all range of purposes. From blankets for warmth, to elaborate woven fabrics for commerce, they have been at the very center of human life.

The need for textiles, combined with our desire to enhance the world around us, has given rise to a huge range of fabric based art, everything from basic colored cloth to complex woven textiles. Tapestries and wall hangings have long been one of the most accomplished forms of this art, having a history dating back millennia, and artists from almost all cultures have contributed some form of textile wall art.

Recently tapestries and wall hangings have enjoyed a rise in interest, with many people looking beyond traditional options for wall decor. The tactile nature of tapestries, combined with their rich history, has made them once again a choice for the well-informed home improver.

Traditional tapestry designs

Although there is an increasing amount of contemporary art available as tapestries, it is the traditional designs from the past that are the most popular. Since tapestries have enjoyed a long history these can include anything from Gothic wall hangings, to French Baroque and Rococo works from the 17th and 18th centuries, to more recent 19th century William Morris and Pre-Raphaelite art.

The main appeal of these impressive works is their connection with history. The range of designs and themes is vast and include subject matter as diverse as the rise and fall of nations, the importance of art movements at different times, and the prominence of individual artists and groups. Most appealing is that each has its own claim to history. This combination of artistic excellence and history writ large is proving irresistible to many art lovers who yearn for more depth in their home decor choices.

There are many famous tapestries from the past. In particular the middle ages took wall tapestries from the domain of practical decor into the realms of art. Boasting famous works like the Bayeux Tapestry and the Lady and the Unicorn series, the medieval era is seen by many as the golden age of tapestry art. More importantly for the first time we see tapestry wall hangings widely appreciated as works of art, rather than just practical pieces of home furnishing.

A growing popularity

Reproductions of these famous works are proving very popular with modern audiences. Given the historical importance of these works of art some of the current productions available are fastidious copies of the originals. The very best of these capture the drama and virtuosity of historical art, perfectly blending it with modern weaving methods. The end result is often very faithful to the original artists’ vision, with all the durability and appeal of modern fabrics.

From the vivid colors of medieval tapestries, to the exoticism of Eastern schools of weaving, traditional tapestry designs often surprise modern art lovers with their attention to detail, their ability to capture emotion and their exploration of timeless themes such as love and romance.

An enduring allure

Because of this these centuries-old designs are enjoying a renewed prominence and are once again making their way into the homes of taste conscious art lovers. Every tapestry, because of the individuality of the weaving process, is a unique work of art unlike any other. In a world driven by mass production art and home decor enthusiasts are drawn to the uniqueness of wall tapestries as an antidote to the monotony of many other d©cor options.

Now, despite their ancient origins, many people are again looking towards historical tapestries and wall hangings as an answer to their modern home decor aspirations. With an ever growing range of options for shoppers the choice has never been better.
